Course Design This course is designed for students who want to learn the tools of the trade forwork or home.
Structure Courses
take place in the working environment of a design studio with access to
all resources needed to help find individual design solutions. The
classes are theory and workshop based. Using a mix of theory and
practical work , students are encouraged to develop an understanding of
the principles of Interior Design, unleash innate design flair and
improve analysis and appreciation of both good design, style and use of
materials. Independent research is promoted through a small amount of
home study each week. Students and tutors work together to articulate
ideas and provide valuable feedback to develop the design and concept
through to the finished scheme to produce mood boards and
specification.Topics covered include :
Scale, volume and space
Proportion and perception
Space planning, and ergonomics
Colour theory, importance of light
Pattern, texture and finishes
Traditional and contemporary style
Course SummaryAn introduction to Interior Design which will encourage individual thinking about design, techniques and materials. The
course covers design skills, specification, simple construction ideas,
green design and a brief introduction to the history of style. It is
also suitable as a ‘taster’ for those considering applying for a
formal design course.
